Derek Wales and Son Surface Coatings is a third generation family business. Since our beginnings in 1978, we’ve worked with an extensive list of commercial and residential clients across the construction industry. Established by Derek Wales, the business was passed down to his son Paul, an experienced industry professional. We’re proud to provide South Australia with reliable and specialist painting and surface coating services for a range of projects.
FAMILY BUSINESS
Owner Paul Wales has over 35 years’ experience providing quality workmanship to historic, commercial and residential properties across Adelaide’s suburbs. Former owner, and father of Paul, Derek Wales first established the business after moving from the UK in 1978. With a wealth of experience in painting and decorating, Derek became the SA distributor of Granosite Materials and worked in some of Adelaide’s largest commercial buildings. Paul has continued in Derek’s footsteps, working on a range of projects including hotels, schools, shopping centres, banks, office buildings and residential properties across Adelaide. Our team continues to provide a friendly and personal service and have strong relationships with our clientele, some dating back to the 1980s.

A true testament to our workmanship and quality, we’re proud to rely solely on word of mouth for all business and projects – we’ve never paid for advertising. We’ve won numerous awards recognising our accomplishments, including the Master Painters Award of Excellence for New Home Painting Over $20,000 in 2013 and 2014, the 2014 Award of Excellence for Heritage Restoration and the 2014 Master Painter of the Year. The 2015 Award of Excellence for New Home Painting Under $20,000, the 2017/2018 Award of Excellence for Artistic Decoration and the 2017/2018 Award of Excellence for Decorative Finishes. We’re also proud to be members of the Master Painter’s Association and are dedicated to sustainable and environmentally friendly best practices.
